The Opportunity
We are looking for an Operations Engineer to join our core team and help build the technical backbone of SavvySaver. This is an engineering role at heart. You will design, build and maintain the systems, automations and data pipelines that keep a fast-scaling global platform operating smoothly.
Think of this as systems engineering applied to a live business. You will architect automated workflows, build reporting and monitoring infrastructure, integrate APIs and solve engineering challenges that have immediate business impact.
You will work closely with our Operations Manager and leadership team. Over time, this role is designed to evolve into a Technical Operations Manager position with ownership of systems and operations across international markets.
Applicants must be based in Johannesburg and possess both strong technical capability and a growth mindset.
What You’ll Build & Own
Systems Monitoring & Infrastructure
- Build and maintain monitoring infrastructure across systems, integrations and dashboards
- Design alerting and health-check systems that identify issues before they become problems
- Build and maintain Power BI reporting infrastructure that provides real-time business visibility
- Engineer data pipelines that transform raw data into actionable insights
Data Engineering & Analysis
- Work with medium-to-large datasets across multiple platforms and systems
- Design data structures and validation processes that ensure data quality and reliability
- Build automated reporting pipelines for weekly and monthly performance analysis
- Support data infrastructure across campaigns, gaming, rewards and receipt-processing systems
Automation & Workflow Engineering
- Architect and build automation systems using tools such as Zapier, Make, Google Apps Script, MessageBird and ActiveCampaign
- Diagnose and resolve workflow failures at root-cause level
- Build scalable, maintainable and well-documented automation architecture
- Continuously improve processes by eliminating manual effort
Technical Systems & Integrations
- Research, evaluate and integrate new tools and platforms
- Own technical configuration, integration and documentation for new systems
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications and system designs
- Create process architecture diagrams and supporting technical documentation
Testing & Engineering Support
- Conduct UAT and technical testing for new features and integrations
- Log, prioritise and track bugs through to resolution with development teams
- Provide technical support across the business where required

Technical Skills (or Strong Willingness to Learn)
- Google Sheets and Excel, including formulas, pivots and data cleaning
- Power BI or Looker Studio
- Automation tools such as Zapier, Make, Google Apps Script, ActiveCampaign and MessageBird
- Basic SQL or a strong willingness to learn
- APIs, integrations and automated data flows (advantageous)
Minimum Requirements
- Engineering or technical degree required
- Preferred fields include Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, Actuarial Science or Data Science
- Other highly analytical or technical degrees will be considered where strong ability can be demonstrated
- Matric certificate
- South African citizen or permanent resident
- Based in Johannesburg (non-negotiable)
Growth Path
This role is intentionally designed as a launchpad into a senior engineering and technical operations career. High performers can progress into a Technical Operations Manager role responsible for:
- Leading systems and automation architecture across the business
- Owning infrastructure reliability and uptime
- Driving technical operations across international markets, beginning with the USA
- Influencing platform and product engineering decisions
- Building and managing a technical operations team
What We Offer
- Salary: R15,000 – R25,000 per month (depending on experience)
