Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Open Pit Mining Engineer to join our client’s team in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. You will lead the planning, design, and execution of safe, cost-effective open pit operations, collaborating with geologists, surveyors, and production staff to optimise mine plans and production schedules.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of open pit planning experience, strong analytics, proficiency in Surpac/Deswik/MinePlan, and a solid grasp of regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field is required.
• 5+ years of open pit mine planning and operations experience.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills.
• Proficiency in mine planning software (Surpac, Deswik, MinePlan).
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop short-term and long-term mine plans and production schedules.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects or extensions.
• Optimize pit designs, slope stability, and drill-and-blast patterns to maximize resource recovery and minimize costs.
• Prepare technical reports including resource estimates and mine design parameters.
• Collaborate with geologists to reconcile models with actual development and production.
• Work with operations to ensure safe and efficient implementation of mining plans.
• Monitor KPIs related to production, costs, and safety; recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
