Formación

About the Role

Our client, a leading industrial manufacturing firm, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated On-Site Industrial Automation Technician to join their operational team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, ZA . This critical role focuses on the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of sophisticated industrial automation systems, including PLCs, robotics, HMI, and SCADA systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical understanding coupled with extensive hands-on experience in maintaining high-performance production environments. You will be instrumental in ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency of automated processes, contributing directly to the company's production targets and operational excellence. This is a hands-on, on-site position requiring a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement within a challenging and dynamic manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and commission industrial automation hardware and software, including PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, and robotic systems.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on automated machinery to ensure optimal performance and prevent failures.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues with automation systems, identifying root causes and implementing effective repair solutions.
• Develop and modify PLC ladder logic, function block diagrams, and other control system programs as needed.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs to facilitate maintenance and repair activities.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation enhancements.
• Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and production line stoppages to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, system configurations, and spare parts inventory.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies during maintenance and repair operations.
• Assist in training operators and maintenance staff on the proper use and care of automated equipment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Industrial Automation Technician or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with major PLC brands (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and programming software.
• Hands-on experience with industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, KUKA) and HMI/SCADA systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical principles, control systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced production setting.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Relevant technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
