Job summary

Old Mutual Life Assurance Company is seeking a meticulous Data Center Technician to join our Johannesburg on-site team. You will manage and maintain critical IT infrastructure, install and maintain servers, network gear, and storage, and support uptime and security across Sandton facilities.

The role requires hands-on hardware experience, strong troubleshooting, and readiness for on-call shifts in a busy data center environment. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Data Center Technician, IT Hardware Technician, or similar role.
• Hands-on experience with server and network hardware installation, racking, and cabling.
• Understanding of data center operations, power distribution, and cooling systems.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a physically demanding environment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to work in Sandton and potentially on-call shifts as required.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain server hardware, network devices, and storage systems within the data center.
• Perform cabling and patching for network and power infrastructure, ensuring neatness and compliance with standards.
• Monitor data center environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, power) and respond to any anomalies.
• Respond to system alerts and incidents, troubleshooting and resolving issues to maintain service continuity.
• Manage inventory of IT hardware and equipment within the data center.
• Assist with hardware decommissioning, disposal, and asset tracking processes in Sandton.
