Job summary

Tiger Brands in Germiston, South Africa, invites an Occupational Health and Safety Intern to gain practical workplace experience within the SSHE framework.

You will assist with OH&S compliance monitoring, inspections, incident reporting and environmental initiatives, collaborating with Production, Engineering, HR and Quality.

The ideal candidate holds a Diploma or Degree in Safety or Environmental Management and demonstrates strong communication, analytical, and planning skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma/Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Management or equivalent
• Solid OH&S knowledge and regulations
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and training facilitation skills

Responsibilities

• Assist with monitoring compliance with the OHSA, applicable regulations and company safety procedures
• Conduct routine workplace safety inspections and assist in identifying unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and opportunities for improvement
• Assist with reporting, recording and investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses
• Maintain an action tracker and follow up with relevant departments to ensure that identified safety findings are addressed and closed out
• Support the coordination of safety inductions, toolbox talks, awareness campaigns and other initiatives aimed at improving employee safety awareness
• Maintain accurate SHE records, training records and other safety documentation
• Monitor the appropriate use of PPE, and report non-compliances
• Support environmental initiatives, including waste management, housekeeping, spill preventions and monitoring of environmental compliance
• Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Sales and Distribution, HR and Quality/Food Safety to integrate OH&S into daily operations
• Promote a safety-first mindset through trainings and on-the-floor engagement
