Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mobile Equipment Technician to join our maintenance team in Centurion, Gauteng. You will maintain, diagnose, and repair a diverse fleet of mobile equipment, including light vehicles and heavy plant, ensuring uptime and safety compliance.

You will work hands-on with engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems, using diagnostic tools and manuals. A proactive, team-minded technician with a valid driver's license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Mobile Equipment Technician or Mechanic in fleet maintenance.
• Skilled in diagnosing engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Experience with diagnostic software and electronic service tools.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematics.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem solving.
• Valid driver's license; technical certification is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently or in a maintenance team.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and servicing on a wide range of mobile equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, and other critical components.
• Conduct complex troubleshooting to identify root causes of equipment malfunctions.
• Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts inventories.
• Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company policies.
• Operate diagnostic equipment and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Perform minor welding and fabrication tasks as required.
• Assist in managing workshop operations and coordinating maintenance schedules.
• Provide guidance and support to junior technicians when necessary.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Certification from a recognized technical institution is advantageous.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a maintenance team.
