Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Officer for mining operations near Stellenbosch to ensure regulatory compliance and promote sustainable practices. You will manage EIAs, monitoring programs, and mitigation measures while working with site management, regulators, and local communities.

The role emphasizes strong communication, data analysis, and EMP implementation, with a focus on safeguarding the environment and maintaining the social license to operate in the Western Cape.

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in environmental management, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
• Experience in developing and implementing Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement environmental management plans and programs.
• Conduct regular environmental audits and site inspections to ensure compliance with legislation.
• Manage environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and reporting.
• Oversee waste management, water management, and rehabilitation activities.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and communities on environmental matters.
• Investigate and report environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions.
