Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mine Ventilation Engineer to join our client in Stellenbosch. The role focuses on designing, implementing and managing ventilation systems for underground mining to ensure safe, compliant air quality and temperature control.

You will analyze airflow, gas concentrations and dust, using Ventsim or Mine Ventilation Suite, and collaborate with mine planning to integrate ventilation into overall design while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related with ventilation specialization.
• 6+ years of underground mine ventilation engineering experience.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation software (Ventsim/Mine Ventilation Suite).
• Strong thermodynamics and fluid dynamics knowledge with air quality monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, and manage underground mine ventilation systems for airflow, air quality and temperature control.
• Conduct regular surveys and monitoring of ventilation parameters (airflow, gases, temperature).
• Use ventilation software for network analysis, modeling, and simulation.
• Develop strategies for dust control, fume extraction, and emergency ventilation procedures.
• Collaborate with mine planning and production teams to align ventilation with design and operations.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations for mine ventilation.

About the Role

This role is critical for ensuring optimal environmental conditions and safety within underground mining operations through effective ventilation system design, implementation, and management. You will be responsible for analyzing airflow, temperature, and contaminant levels, developing ventilation strategies, and overseeing the installation and maintenance of ventilation infrastructure. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background in ventilation principles and a commitment to maintaining a safe and productive underground working environment in the challenging mining sector .

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Experience with fan selection, ductwork design, and automation systems for ventilation control.
