Placements24 is seeking a Mine Ventilation Engineer for a George-based operation. You will design, implement, and monitor ventilation systems to ensure a safe underground environment, manage air quality, temperature, and dust, and optimise auxiliary ventilation for underground workstreams.

The role requires a Mining Engineering degree, 5+ years in mine ventilation (SA preferred), and experience with Ventsim or MineDAC, plus strong analytical, communication, and safety skills.

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a skilled Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their established mining operation in George . This critical role is responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring ventilation systems to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel underground. You will play a key part in managing air quality, temperature, and dust levels, as well as designing and maintaining auxiliary ventilation systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mine ventilation principles and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a challenging operational setting, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety compliance of the mine.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain primary and auxiliary ventilation systems for underground mining operations.
• Conduct regular surveys and analyses of air quality, dust levels, and temperature distribution.
• Develop and implement strategies for controlling airborne contaminants and mitigating heat stress.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Utilize specialized software for ventilation network analysis and modeling.
• Collaborate with mine management and safety officers to address ventilation-related issues.

Requirements

• Degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in ventilation.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably within the South African mining sector.
• Knowledge of relevant ventilation software (e.g., Ventsim, MineDAC).
