Placements24 seeks a Mine Ventilation Engineer to join our client in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, with a hybrid work setup. You will design and manage ventilation systems to optimize air quality, dust control, and thermal environments in an underground mining context.

The role requires a strong background in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics, plus 6+ years in mine ventilation and proficiency with Ventsim software. Works across office and underground environments with SA mining regulation knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mining Engineering with a ventilation specialization.
• At least 6 years' experience in mine ventilation engineering.
• Proficiency with mine ventilation software (Ventsim/Ventsim USER).
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and dust control.

Responsibilities

• Design, install and maintain mine ventilation systems for adequate airflow.
• Survey ventilation networks, dust levels and atmospheric conditions.
• Implement heat, humidity and contaminant control strategies underground.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regs for mine ventilation.
• Collaborate with management and safety to address issues and improve conditions.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a specialized Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape , with a hybrid work arrangement. This role is essential for ensuring safe and healthy working conditions within the mine by designing, implementing, and managing effective ventilation systems. You will focus on maintaining air quality, controlling dust and gases, and managing thermal environments to support optimal productivity and worker well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mine ventilation principles, applying their expertise to solve complex challenges in a dynamic underground environment. Key Responsibilities

• Design, install, and maintain mine ventilation systems to ensure adequate airflow and air quality.
• Conduct regular surveys and analysis of ventilation networks, dust levels, and atmospheric conditions.
• Implement strategies for controlling heat, humidity, and airborne contaminants within underground workings.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to mine ventilation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in ventilation.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience specifically in mine ventilation engineering .
• Proficiency in mine ventilation simulation software (e.g., Ventsim, Ventsim USER).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and dust control principles.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in both office and underground mine environments.
• Knowledge of relevant South African mining legislation regarding ventilation.
