Responsibilities include airflow surveys, dust and gas monitoring programs, cooling calculations, and training mine staff on best practices. A degree in Mining Engineering with ventilation specialization and 4+ years’ underground experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with a ventilation focus.
• Minimum 4 years in mine ventilation engineering, underground preferred.
• Proficiency using ventilation modeling software (VENTSIM, Numscale).
• Strong thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and air quality knowledge.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Mine Ventilation Engineer to join their team at their underground mine in the Bloemfontein region. This role is essential for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment by managing mine air quality, temperature, and airflow. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring ventilation systems to meet all regulatory requirements and operational needs. The position requires a strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mine safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, and maintain mine ventilation systems, including fan selection, ducting, and sealing.
• Conduct airflow measurements and surveys to monitor ventilation network performance.
• Develop and implement dust control and gas monitoring programs to ensure a safe working environment.
• Calculate and manage mine cooling requirements, considering heat sources and environmental factors.
• Ensure compliance with all national and international mine ventilation and occupational health standards.
• Provide technical support and training to mine personnel on ventilation best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering with a specialization in ventilation, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably in underground mining.
