Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Mine Safety Officer to join the team at our facility near Kimberley, South Africa. The role focuses on developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive safety policies to protect all on-site personnel.

You will conduct inspections, lead hazard assessments, deliver safety training, investigate incidents, and promote a strong safety culture in underground mining operations.

Qualifications

• Must have National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent.
• Mine Safety Officers Certificate of Competency is essential.
• Minimum 5 years in mine safety management, preferably underground mining.
• Solid knowledge of SA mining legislation (MHSA) and risk assessment/hazard ID techniques.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the mine's health and safety management system.
• Conduct site inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training programs to all employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with SA mining health and safety legislation.
• Promote a positive safety culture and act as a safety advocate.
