Placements24 is seeking a Mine Geologist for our client in Welkom, Free State. You will contribute to gold exploration by mapping, sampling, core logging, and resource modeling.

The role involves fieldwork at mine sites, data management, and collaboration with the exploration team to define drill targets and ensure safety. A relevant degree and 1-3 years of experience are preferred, with willingness to travel to sites in the Free State region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Science is required.
• 1–3 years of mineral exploration or mine geology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping and structural analysis of exploration areas.
• Systematically log drill core, recording lithology, alteration, mineralization and structure.
• Collect and assay rock samples according to protocols.

About the Role

Our client, a well-established mining company with significant operations, is looking for a diligent and skilled Mine Geologist to join their gold exploration team in Welkom, Free State . This role is crucial for identifying, evaluating, and delineating gold mineralization within the company's exploration tenements. The successful candidate will be responsible for geological mapping, sampling, core logging, and contributing to resource modeling efforts. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a geologist to gain hands‑on experience in a productive mining environment and contribute directly to the discovery and definition of new gold resources in the renowned Welkom, Free State goldfields. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping and structural analysis of exploration areas.


• Systematically log diamond and reverse circulation drill core, recording lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structural data.


• Collect and assay rock chip, grab, and channel samples according to established protocols.


• Assist in the generation of geological models and interpretations using specialized software.


• Work closely with the exploration team to define drill targets and assist in drill program planning.


• Maintain accurate geological databases and ensure data quality.


• Collaborate with mine operations and other geoscientists to integrate surface and underground geological information.


• Ensure all fieldwork is conducted safely and in compliance with environmental regulations.


• Assist in the preparation of geological reports and presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline.


• 1-3 years of experience in mineral exploration or mine geology, with a focus on gold deposits.


• Experience with drill core logging and geological mapping techniques.


• Familiarity with geological software for data management and interpretation (e.g., Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS).


• Understanding of gold deposit styles and exploration models relevant to the Free State region.


• Strong field-based geological skills and attention to detail.


• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a remote or mine-site environment.


• Good communication and interpersonal skills.


• Willingness to travel and work at mine sites in and around Welkom, Free State .
