Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Geologist to join our client’s team in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on geological assessment, exploration, and resource estimation of mineral deposits, with emphasis on gold/base metals.

You will drive exploration strategies and advise on operations with senior management. The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mineral exploration or mine geology, strong modeling skills in Leapfrog or Vulcan, and a track record in the mining sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or related field.
• 7+ years in mineral exploration or mine geology, with a focus on gold/base metals.
• Proficient in Leapfrog, Vulcan or similar geological modeling software.
• Strong report writing and communication skills; able to travel to remote sites.
• Knowledge of South African geological settings and mining regulations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping and sampling in exploration and operational areas.
• Interpret geological data from drilling, geophysics, and geochemistry to define mineralized zones.
• Develop and manage 3D geological models and resource estimations using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate with mining engineers and other specialists to optimize mine planning and production.
• Prepare comprehensive geological reports, presentations, and technical memorandums for management and stakeholders.
• Identify and evaluate new exploration targets and opportunities.
• Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards throughout all geological activities.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists and technical staff.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geological exploration techniques and technologies.

• Excellent understanding of South African geological settings and mining regulations.
• Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote sites as required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
