Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician for our client’s busy Microbiology department in Port Elizabeth. You will perform routine microbiological tests, prepare media and reagents, and operate essential lab equipment while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate holds a National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Microbiology or related field, with experience in clinical or research microbiology, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or related field.
• Previous experience as Laboratory Technician in clinical or research microbiology setting.
• Proficiency in standard microbiology laboratory techniques and aseptic techniques.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine microbiological tests, including cultures, staining, and sensitivity testing.
• Prepare media, reagents, and stains required for laboratory procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, microscopes, and autoclaves.
• Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance procedures.
• Accurately record and report test results in the laboratory information system.
• Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents.
