Placements24 seeks an experienced Mechanical Fitter for Upington, Northern Cape, to install, maintain and repair mining equipment. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose faults and execute repairs with precision, while upholding strict safety and environmental standards.

The role requires a Trade Certificate as Mechanical Fitter (NQF Level 3) and a minimum of five years post-trade experience in mining or heavy industry, with strong hydraulics, pneumatics, and drawing interpretation

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the mining and resources sector, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join their operations based in Upington, Northern Cape . This is a crucial role focused on the installation, maintenance, and repair of heavy-duty mining equipment, ensuring operational continuity and safety. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, a deep understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics, and extensive experience working with large-scale industrial machinery. You will be responsible for both routine preventative maintenance and emergency repairs, often in challenging on-site conditions. We are looking for a reliable, safety-conscious individual with a proven track record in mechanical fitting within a mining or heavy industrial environment. This role demands precision, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, assemble, and maintain mechanical systems and equipment, including pumps, conveyors, crushers, and heavy mobile machinery.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks as per schedules and equipment specifications.
• Diagnose mechanical faults using appropriate tools and techniques, and carry out necessary repairs.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and manuals to guide fitting and repair work.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with stringent health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Operate workshop equipment and tools safely and effectively.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts used, and time spent.
• Collaborate with other tradespeople and operational staff to ensure efficient problem resolution.
• Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and modifications.
• Identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability and performance.

Requirements

• Trade Certificate as a Mechanical Fitter (e.g., NQF Level 3 or equivalent).
• A minimum of 5 years of post-trade experience as a Mechanical Fitter, preferably in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience with the maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
• Experience with welding, machining, and fabrication is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of preventative maintenance principles and practices.
• Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
• Strong commitment to health and safety regulations.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a medical examination.
