Job summary

A leading food producer on the South Coast is seeking a qualified Mechanical Fitter to join its Engineering Team in Margate, KwaZulu-Natal. The role focuses on maximising machine uptime and ensuring reliable operation of processing, packaging and conveyor systems.

Key duties include preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, installations and modifications, plus adherence to OHS and food safety standards.

Qualifications

Red Seal Trade Test – Qualified Fitter or Millwright.
Grade 12 / Matric.
N4–N6 Mechanical Engineering Certificate will be advantageous.
3–5 years' maintenance experience, preferably in FMCG/food manufacturing.
Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.
Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors and pumps.
Proficiency in welding and cutting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure.
Team player with attention to detail.
Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.

Responsibilities

Preventative maintenance on plant machinery to minimise breakdowns and maximise equipment reliability.
Diagnose and repair mechanical failures, including hydraulics and pneumatics, conveyors, pumps and related equipment.
Assist with installation, commissioning, modification and maintenance of equipment.
Ensure compliance with OHS Act, procedures and food safety standards.
Accurately complete maintenance records, job cards and related documentation.
Be available for shift work, weekend work, standby duties and emergency call-outs.
