Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a Rustenburg-based role with a leading heavy machinery manufacturer. You will design, develop, and optimize large-scale mining equipment, with hands-on prototype work and field testing.

You should have a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, at least four years' experience in heavy machinery, and proficiency with CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and basic FEA. Travel for site visits may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years in mechanical design, preferably heavy machinery.
• Experience with CAD software and basic FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of mechanics, hydraulics and materials.
• Reading and interpreting complex drawings; good problem-solving.
• Willingness to travel for site visits and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for large‑scale mining equipment, such as excavators, loaders, and drilling rigs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in heavy machinery, automotive, or aerospace industries.
• Demonstrated experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and basic FEA tools.
• Solid understanding of mechanical principles, including statics, dynamics, materials science, and hydraulics.
• Experience with design for extreme environments and heavy‑duty applications is highly advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
