Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with HVAC specialization for our Polokwane office. This hybrid role blends on-site project engagement with design and coordination in our engineering team, delivering complex HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.

You will design, specify, and manage projects, perform load calculations, and ensure compliance with SANS and SA regulations, while collaborating with architects, electrical and structural engineers,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 5+ years of HVAC design and project engineering experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP and HVAC load software (HAP, Trace 700).
• Knowledge of South African building regulations and SANS standards.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leading engineering consultancy firm specializing in building services, is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in HVAC systems for their Polokwane office. This role operates on a hybrid model, blending essential on-site project engagement with strategic office-based design and coordination. You will be responsible for the design, specification, and project management of complex HVAC systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer HVAC systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, and heating, for diverse building types.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, verify installations, and provide technical support.
• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Perform load calculations, airflow analysis, and energy efficiency assessments.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant SANS standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for mechanical services.
• Review shop drawings and submittals from contractors.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC system issues during the construction and commissioning phases.
• Stay updated on the latest HVAC technologies and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (P.Eng Tech) registration with ECSA is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC design and project engineering.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and HVAC load calculation software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
• Familiarity with South African building regulations and SANS standards related to HVAC.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a hybrid work schedule, effectively balancing site and office responsibilities.
• Experience in managing projects from concept through to completion.
• Strong report writing and client liaison skills.
