Placements24 is assisting a distinguished engineering consultancy in finding a Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) with 7+ years' experience to lead design, specification and project management of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial and institutional projects in South Africa.

The role supports a flexible work arrangement, including remote options, with strong emphasis on energy efficiency and high-performance building solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive HVAC design experience, preferably in consulting.
• Pr.Eng registration or eligibility is highly desirable.
• Proficient with Revit MEP, AutoCAD and load calculation tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of HVAC systems for varied building types.
• Develop calculations, schematics and specs for HVAC equipment and ductwork.
• Model and document using Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and HAP/Trace 3D Plus.
• Perform energy modeling to optimize system efficiency.

About the Role

Our client, a distinguished engineering consultancy renowned for its innovative building services design, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in HVAC systems to join their expanding team. This role offers a flexible working arrangement, with the possibility of it being fully remote, for talented professionals located within South Africa, including those in or near Polokwane, Limpopo. The position involves the design, specification, and project management of complex HVAC systems for a diverse range of commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. The successful candidate will be a key player in delivering energy-efficient and high-performance building solutions, contributing significantly to the firm's reputation for excellence. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of HVAC systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, and heating, for various building types.
• Develop detailed calculations, schematics, and specifications for HVAC equipment, ductwork, and piping systems.
• Utilize industry-standard HVAC design software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD, HAP) for modeling, analysis, and documentation.
• Perform energy modeling and performance analysis to optimize system efficiency and sustainability.
• Collaborate closely with architects, electrical engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure integrated and coordinated designs.
• Conduct site visits and surveys as needed to assess existing conditions and inform design decisions.
• Manage HVAC design projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers within the mechanical team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in HVAC system design, preferably within a consulting engineering environment.
• Proven expertise in designing and specifying HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, or institutional buildings.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software such as Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and load calculation tools (e.g., HAP, Trace 3D Plus).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and building physics.
• Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote or hybrid team environment, demonstrating strong self-discipline and time management.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration or eligibility is highly desirable.
