Job summary

BVi Consulting Engineers Gauteng (Pty) Ltd has a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer – EPCM in our Pretoria office. This is a permanent, on-site role focused on the detailed design, procurement and construction management of mechanical elements for mining and industrial plants.

Key requirements include a BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering, registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA, and a minimum of seven years post-registration EPCM experience in heavy industrial projects.

Responsibilities

• Execute concept and detailed mechanical designs and drawings for the scope of work.
• Manage quality system-based processes related to mechanical design and drawings.
• Plan and manage work to meet project deadlines and deliverables.
• Lead supervisors and provide technical support.
• Attend to field engineering queries and explain design outcomes to client/contractor.
• Support QC processes with plan reviews, method statements, site visits and fabricator verification.
• Monitor manufacturing progress and report risks; assist in mitigation.
• Request and review vendor information and QC documentation.

Job Summary:

The detailed design, engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) of mechanical elements for mining and industrial process plants, including generation of construction drawings, compilation of design documentation, quality assurance and validation of mechanical construction and fabrication works.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute concept and detailed mechanical designs and drawings for the scope of work and in accordance with the design criteria.
• Manage quality system-based processes relating to mechanical design, including the checking of assumptions, calculations and drawings/specifications.
• Plan and manage work to achieve project deadlines and deliverables.
• Lead BVi supervisors and team members by providing technical support where required.
• Attend to field engineering queries and explain design outcomes to the client and/or contractor when necessary.
• Support the contractor’s quality control process through:
  • Review and approval of the overall quality control plan
  • Review and approval of method statements
  • Periodic quality monitoring through site visits
  • Spot checking on site of mechanical elements where required
  • Validation and approval of performance test results
  • Visits to the premises of fabricators, vendors, suppliers or subcontractors to verify competence and assure fabrication quality
  • Providing guidance and inputs on site instructions.
• Assist with monitoring the manufacturing progress in accordance with the project schedule.
• Identification and reporting on manufacturing risk.
• Assisting in mitigating identified risks and reporting on mitigation measures.
• Requesting and receiving vendor certified information.
• Requesting and receiving vendor quality control documentation and databook
  • BEng/BSc Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
  • Proven EPCM experience (minimum 7 years post-registration) in the mining and industrial sectors, with a strong track record in heavy industrial process plants
  • Design of mechanical systems and elements and the generation of construction drawings
  • Sufficient knowledge of relevant mining specifications and standards
  • General competence regarding specifying systems, packaged plants and mechanical elements
  • Experience with cross-discipline integration and interface management in EPCM projects
  • Sufficient knowledge and practical experience in quality monitoring, assurance and validation
  • Mentor learners, junior engineering and technical staff.
  • Assisting with concession and non-compliance adjudications.
  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly site progress and client meetings.
  • Using Aconex for filing and transmission of documentation and communication.
