Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, to translate concepts into manufacturable designs for consumer electronics. You will own the mechanical design lifecycle from concept through prototyping to production support, collaborating with electrical, industrial design and software teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in consumer electronics design, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo), and a passion for user-centric devices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in mechanical design, focused on consumer electronics or product design.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software: SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or Creo.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and enclosures for consumer devices.
• Create detailed 3D models, drawings, and assembly documents.
• Conduct design analysis including thermal management and tolerance stack‑up.
• Optimize for manufacturability, assembly, cost, and aesthetics.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, industrial designers, and software teams.
• Manage prototyping and testing phases to validate designs.
• Coordinate with manufacturers for production and quality control.
• Stay updated on materials, manufacturing technologies, and trends.
