Job summary

Planet Fitness in Johannesburg is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Officer to safeguard gym equipment and facilities, ensuring operations run smoothly and safely for members and staff.

You will manage stock, protect keys, complete required administration, and respond promptly to maintenance issues while adhering to health and safety policies. This role requires flexibility for shift work and a proactive approach in a dynamic club environment.

Qualifications

• Proven maintenance experience, preferably with gym equipment.
• Ability to follow health and safety regulations.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work shift schedules.

Responsibilities

• Ensure maintenance stock and equipment are secured at all times.
• Maintain stock security and control primary keys.
• Submit administration and documents (checklists, invoices) to management.
• Complete tasks by inspection list and maintenance schedules.
• Provide daily feedback on maintenance issues to club management.
• Comply with health and safety guidelines across the club.
• Address risks promptly to protect staff and customers.
• Maintain club areas to high cleanliness and safety standards.
• Manage equipment breakdowns and inform management of repair times.
• Provide regular updates on maintenance progress.

Job description

Key Performance Areas Include

• Ensure all maintenance stock, tools and equipment are correctly protected at all times
• Keep stock secure and primary keys controlled
• Keep and hand in all relevant administration and documents to management (checklists, reports, invoices, etc.)
• Deliver all tasks and deadlines as stipulated by the inspection list, daily action list and preventative maintenance list as required by management
• Provide club management with feedback and progress on maintenance issues daily
• Comply to compulsory health and safety guidelines within all areas of the club
• Ensure all risks are dealt with immediately and do not place the company, its staff, members or the public at any risk of danger/harm
• Complete the required tasks and responsibilities to the highest standard and in line with company policies and procedures
• Ensure all areas of the club are well presented and maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, health & safety
• Manage equipment breakdowns promptly whilst keeping management informed of the progress and expected repair time/date
• Provide club management with regular and accurate feedback on maintenance issues

Experience & Competencies Required

• Proven general maintenance work experience (preferably experience with repairs and maintenance of gym and related equipment
• Must be able to carry out responsibilities in accordance with Planet Fitness values, policies and procedures and stipulated Health & Safety regulations
• Use initiative to resolve queries
• Must be flexible and adaptable
• Basic PC literacy
• Written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact at all levels
• Must be able to work
