Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking a senior artisan leader to drive mechanical maintenance in a FMCG environment. You will plan and execute maintenance on mills, boilers, dryers, and related equipment, while mentoring teams and ensuring safety and quality standards.

You will read schematics, lead maintenance projects, and manage preventive maintenance tasks to maximize equipment reliability. Strong leadership and communication are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or BTech or Trade Test with 5+ years FMCG experience.
• Minimum 5+ years in a senior artisan leadership role.
• Experience in mechanical maintenance of mills, pressure vessels, cookers, dryers, and ovens.
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, drawings and blueprints.
• Strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Plan, assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical equipment and fixtures according to schedule.
• Maintain cookers, dryers, mills, and toasting ovens; service utility equipment (Boilers, Compressors, Chillers).
• Diagnose malfunctions using appropriate tools; inspect systems and ensure documentation is complete.
• Coach operators and artisans; lead project planning, execution, and commissioning.
• Maintain ISO 9002 calibration-related processes and ensure housekeeping standards.

Job description

• National Diploma or BTech or Trade Test (10 years experience) coupled with at least +5 years of FMCG working experience.
• Minimum 5+ years in a senior artisan leadership role for a team of artisans.

Knowledge and skills:

• Pumps (Centrifugal, screw or mono, Diaphragm, Peristaltic, gear).
• Fans: (Types: Blower, Extraction, ID & FD)
• Piping systems associated with equipment such as valves, flanges, and gaskets. (Steam and Water)
• Boilers (Gas fired)
• Receivers (Air)
• Dryers: Piping systems, Radiators

Responsibilities:

• Ensures that preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, and construction are accomplished according to schedule by:
• Planning, assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining Mechanical, equipment, appliances, fixtures, etc.
• Maintenance of Cookers, Dryers, Flaking mills, and toasting ovens
• Maintenance of utility equipment (Boilers, Compressors, Chillers, and Dust plant) experience
• Steam and condensate system experience.
• Conditional monitoring experience
• Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and systems by using the correct tools.
• Inspecting Mechanical systems and continuity of drawings, equipment, and fixtures, using relevant testing devices.
• Using correct tools.
• Identifies opportunities for equipment improvement
• Develops and modifies planned maintenance tasks to ensure maximum equipment reliability
• Technical report writing of failures occurred, projects, and investigations.
• Ensure all assigned preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
• Perform standby duties and attend odd hours breakdowns.
• Project planning, execution, and commissioning.
• Compiles / completes all relevant documentation, such as purchasing requisitions, job cards, drawings, and forms.
• Reports all breakdowns timeously.
• Analyses problems, provide relevant advice, and suggests solutions based on engineering and factory information.
• Participates in CAPAs and Root cause analysis
• Orders spare by using SAP.
• Continuously performs repairs effectively, through physical observation of function upon completion.
• Coaches operators, apprentices, interns, and artisans.
• Maintains the ISO 9002 system related to calibration.
