Job summary

West Coast Personnel in Cape Town, South Africa, seeks a qualified Maintenance Millwright to join our production team. This hands-on role focuses on improving plant reliability, reducing downtime and maintaining equipment to a high operational standard.

The successful candidate will diagnose faults in mechanical and electrical systems, service moulding and other machinery, and develop preventative maintenance schedules while ensuring safe, efficient operation.

Qualifications

• Recognised Millwright Trade Test Certificate is essential.
• Matric or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 3 years post-trade Millwright experience in production/manufacturing.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Experience with three-phase motors and industrial electrical systems.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Must work independently and make sound decisions during breakdowns.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to maintain maintenance records.

Responsibilities

• Attend to mechanical and electrical breakdowns.
• Diagnose recurring machine faults and identify root causes.
• Maintain production equipment including moulding, assembly, printing, conveying and ancillary machinery.
• Maintain motors, gearboxes, bearings, belts, chains and shafts.
• Fault-find electrical panels, sensors, contactors, relays and motor circuits.
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules.
• Conduct planned servicing and equipment inspections.
• Maintain accurate machine and equipment registers.
• Record breakdowns, repairs, downtime and parts used.
• Identify critical spare parts and stock levels.
• Liaise with machine suppliers and contractors.
• Assist with machinery installation, relocation and commissioning.
• Maintain high housekeeping and contamination-control standards.
