Job summary

Network Finance in South Africa is sourcing an experienced Maintenance Foreman for a leading cement manufacturing operation. The role leads mechanical and electrical maintenance teams to maximise plant reliability, equipment availability and efficiency.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on maintenance expertise in heavy industrial or cement environments, with strong leadership, safety and cost-control focus, and a track record of improving plant performance.

Qualifications

  • Trade Tested Millwright, Fitter, or Electrician (Red Seal).
  • N6, National Diploma or equivalent engineering qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years' maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • 3-5 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
  • Experience in cement, lime, mining or similar heavy process industry preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Valid driver's licence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise daily maintenance activities.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance.
  • Ensure maximum plant uptime through breakdown response and RCA.
  • Manage maintenance on plant equipment: rotary kilns, mills, crushers, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps.
  • Schedule planned shutdowns and major maintenance projects.
  • Monitor KPIs: availability, MTBF, MTTR and costs.
  • Ensure OHSA and LOTO compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage contractors during shutdowns and capital projects.
  • Develop artisans, apprentices and maintenance personnel.
  • Oversee spare parts management and inventory control.
  • Drive continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.

Job description

Our client, a leading cement manufacturing operation, is seeking an experienced Maintenance Foreman to lead the mechanical and electrical maintenance teams responsible for ensuring maximum plant reliability, equipment availability, and operational efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on maintenance professional with extensive experience in heavy industrial or cement manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise the daily activities of the maintenance team.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Ensure maximum plant uptime through effective breakdown response and root cause analysis.
  • Manage maintenance activities on critical cement plant equipment including:
    • Rotary kilns
    • Ball mills and vertical roller mills
    • Crushers
    • Conveyors
    • Bucket elevators
    • Fans and blowers
    • Gearboxes
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Dust collection systems
    • Pumps and compressors
  • Schedule planned shutdowns and major maintenance projects.
  • Monitor maintenance KPIs including equipment availability, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance costs.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSA, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and company safety standards.
  • Manage contractors during shutdowns and capital projects.
  • Develop and mentor artisans, apprentices, and maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure effective spare parts management and inventory control.
  • Drive continuous improvement and reliability initiatives using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and preventative maintenance strategies.
Minimum Requirements
  • Trade Tested Millwright, Fitter, or Electrician (Red Seal).
  • N6, National Diploma, or equivalent engineering qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 5years' maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • At least 3-5 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
  • Previous experience in a cement plant, lime plant, mining, quarrying, smelter, steel, power generation, or similar heavy process industry is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems..
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Valid driver's licence.
