Job summary

Tiger Brands in South Africa seeks a Production Operator to operate, monitor and maintain production machinery safely and efficiently to meet targets, quality standards and compliance.

The role includes troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, housekeeping, QA compliance, and shift reporting with emphasis on health and safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience as a continuous process operator in food manufacturing.
  • FETC (NQF level 4) or Grade 12 qualification required.
  • Mechanical experience on machines is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor and maintain production machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot problems and implement solutions.
  • Engage in preventative maintenance/condition monitoring.
  • Enforce health and safety standards.
  • Complete housekeeping and sanitation documentation.
  • Prepare daily operational requirements per production plan and ensure materials and utilities are available.
  • Operate both automated and manual processing lines.
  • Ensure produced products meet Davita quality requirements and report defects.
  • Report shift results and deviations to the next shift and manager.
  • Respond to line issues and decide on production stops when necessary.

Job description

Operate, monitor and maintain production machinery safely and efficiently in order to achieve production targets, quality standards and compliance requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Correct problem identification and troubleshooting to implement innovative solutions
  • Actively participates in preventative maintenance/Condition monitoring.
  • Enforces Health and Safety standards
  • Completes housekeeping and daily condition monitoring reports
  • Basic maintenance as required
  • Prepares daily assigned operational requirements in accordance with the production plan by making sure that there are available raw materials/semi-finished products and relevant utilities, and adequate safety and work equipment at the commencement of the shift (and during the shift) if required or instructed to do so by the direct manager or his delegated nominee.
  • Operation of the automated/ manual processing production line.
  • Accountable for the compliance of produced product to Davita quality requirements on his/her line and take immediate necessary action to correct any quality defects and report same.
  • Cleans his/her workplace as per the defined cleaning procedures (E.g. equipment, tools and surrounding area) and completes the relevant documentation in respect of sanitation expectations
  • Operator is responsible for making decisions onthe line should there be a mechanical or electrical problem leading to a deviation from machine speed, efficiency, safety or quality expectations(Decision to stop production and take necessary corrective action and / or report immediately)
  • Performs all reasonable request in relation to the operational requirements of the line, machinery, process packaging.
  • Reports (verbal and/or written) at the end of each shift the achieved volumes and / or deviations to new shift and to the direct manager or his delegated nominee
Competencies and requirements:
  • Computer literacy
  • Product, process, specification and quality knowledge Team player
  • Verbal and written communication (English)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and standards
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) (NQF level 4) minimum is required, or a related Grade 12 (matric) qualification
  • 3-5 years relevant experience in continuous process (chemical/Mechanical) operators within the food manufacturing environment
  • Must have some mechanical experience- done mechanical work on machine
