Job summary

Stellenbosch University seeks an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Machine Design at the Stellenbosch Campus. The role encompasses leading research in advanced manufacturing and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering.

The position requires a doctoral degree, extensive teaching/research experience, and professional engineering registration with ECSA.

Qualifications

• A doctoral degree plus at least five years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience.
• An ECSA-accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA for registration as a professional engineer.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer by ECSA.
• Proven academic and/or industry-related management skills at senior level.
• A strong, applicable research record with postgraduate supervision and publications, or strong industry R&D record.
• Sound communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient in English in a multilingual environment.
• Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
• For Senior Lecturer: a doctoral degree with at least three years' experience or a master's with eight years in industry.
• An ECSA-accredited degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent for professional engineering registration.

Responsibilities

• Performing research in the field of advanced manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics.
• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics.
• Doen navorsing in die vakgebiede van gevorderde vervaardigingsprosesse, masjienontwerp en / of meganika.
• Gee voorgraadse en nagraadse onderrig in die areas van gevorderde vervaardigingsprosesse, masjienontwerp en / of meganika.
