Job summary

Stellenbosch University seeks an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Machine Design at the Stellenbosch Campus. The role encompasses leading research in advanced manufacturing and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering.

The position requires a doctoral degree, extensive teaching/research experience, and professional engineering registration with ECSA.

Qualifications

• A doctoral degree plus at least five years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience.
• An ECSA-accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA for registration as a professional engineer.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer by ECSA.
• Proven academic and/or industry-related management skills at senior level.
• A strong, applicable research record with postgraduate supervision and publications, or strong industry R&D record.
• Sound communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient in English in a multilingual environment.
• Good interpersonal and organisational skills.
• For Senior Lecturer: a doctoral degree with at least three years' experience or a master's with eight years in industry.
• An ECSA-accredited degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent for professional engineering registration.

Responsibilities

• Performing research in the field of advanced manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics.
• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics.

Duties/Pligte

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

For Associate Professor:

• A relevant doctoral degree plus at least five years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience.
• An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA for registration as professional engineer.

• Registration as a Professional Engineer by ECSA.
• Proven academic and/or industry related management skills at senior level.
• A strong, applicable research record, including successful postgraduate supervision and publication record, or strong industry Research and Development record.
• Sound communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient in English with the ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual environment.
• Good interpersonal and organisational skills.

For Senior Lecturer:

• A relevant doctoral degree, plus at least three years' applicable practical, teaching and/or research experience, or an applicable master's degree in engineering with at least eight years' applicable technical or management experience in industry.

• An ECSA accredited BEng or BSc(Eng) degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering or an equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA for registration as professional engineer.
• Sound communication and teaching skills.
• Proficient in English with the ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual environment.
• Good interpersonal and organisational skills.

Vir Medeprofessoraat:

• 'n Toepaslike doktorsgraad plus minstens vyf jaar se toepaslike praktyk-, onderrig- en/of navorsingservaring.
• 'n ECSA-geakkrediteerde BIng of BSc(Ing) in Meganiese of Megatroniese Ingenieurswese of gelykwaardig vir registrasie as professionele ingenieur by ECSA.

• 'n ECSA-geakkrediteerde BIng of BSc(Ing) in Meganiese of Megatroniese Ingenieurswese of gelykwaardig vir registrasie as professionele ingenieur by ECSA.
• Goeie kommunikasie- en onderrigvaardighede.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

• A proven record of experience as engineer in heavy industry (for example foundry, steel production, automotive component manufacturing) with a background in strengths of materials and machine design.

• An established research record in the field of advanced manufacturing processes, machine design and / or mechanics and fundraising in these areas.
• Evaluation by the NRF as a rated researcher.

For Senior Lecturer

• Registration as a Professional Engineer by ECSA.
• Proven academic and/or industry related management skills at senior level.
• A strong, applicable research record, including successful postgraduate supervision and publication record, or strong industry Research and Development record.
• Bewese ervaring as ingenieur in die in swaar industrie (byvoorbeeld gieterye, staalproduksie, voertuigkomponentvervaardiging) met `n agtergrond in sterkteleer en masjienontwerp.
• `n Gevestigde navorsingsrekord in die veld van gevorderde vervaardigingsprosesse, masjienontwerp en / of meganika, met fondswerwing in hierdie areas.
• NNS-gradering as 'n navorser.

For Senior Lektoraat

• Registrasie as `n Professionele Ingenieur deur ECSA.
• Bewese akademiese en/of industrieverwante bestuursvaardighede op senior vlak.
