Job summary

Kendrick Recruitment is seeking a passionate Camp Chef to join a luxury safari lodge in the Welgevonden Reserve. You will oversee daily kitchen operations, prepare high-quality meals for guests and staff, and ensure food safety, hygiene and consistency across service periods. You will manage stock, assist with menu planning and coordinate with lodge management and F&B teams.

Salary: R10,000 per month. Benefits: live-in accommodation provided.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Camp Chef, Lodge Chef, Sous Chef or similar culinary role.
• A passion for cooking and delivering consistently high-quality meals.
• Good knowledge of food preparation, menu planning and kitchen operations.
• Understanding of food safety, hygiene and kitchen sanitation standards.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
• The ability to work independently and manage kitchen responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present high-quality meals in line with the lodge’s standards and guest expectations.
• Plan and prepare menus that cater to a variety of tastes and dietary requirements.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring that food preparation and service run smoothly.
• Maintain excellent standards of food quality, presentation, freshness and consistency.
• Ensure that all food preparation areas, equipment and kitchen facilities are kept clean and organised.
• Maintain strict food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards.
• Manage stock levels, monitor food usage and assist with ordering ingredients and supplies.
• Minimise food wastage through effective planning, portion control and stock rotation.
• Ensure that ingredients are stored correctly and that stock is managed efficiently.
• Work closely with lodge management and front-of-house staff to coordinate meal times and guest requirements.
• Accommodate special dietary requirements and guest preferences wherever possible.
• Assist with menu planning and the development of creative daily specials.
• Ensure that meals are prepared and served on time, even during busy service periods.
• Maintain a professional, positive and organised working environment within the kitchen.
