Job summary

Membrey Short Hauls (Pty) Ltd in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, is seeking an experienced Operations Controller to join our fast‑paced transport and logistics team. You will plan and coordinate daily vehicle movements, allocate drivers and trailers, and monitor loads from collection to delivery, while maintaining effective communications with drivers, clients and depots.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an Operations Controller in transport or logistics.
• Experience with container movements, port operations and breakbulk loads advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of Durban ports, depots and surrounding routes.
• Computer literate, including Microsoft Excel, email and transport tracking systems.
• Excellent communication, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a 24-hour operational environment.
• Willingness to work day shifts, night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Own reliable transport and contactable employment references.
• Clear criminal record and must be a South African citizen.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and coordinate daily vehicle movements.
• Allocate drivers, vehicles and trailers.
• Monitor and track loads from collection to delivery.
• Provide regular updates to customers and management.
• Communicate effectively with drivers, clients and depots.
• Manage delays, breakdowns and other operational challenges.
• Ensure trip sheets and transport documents are completed correctly.
• Coordinate container, breakbulk and general cargo movements.
• Maintain accurate operational records and shift handovers.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety requirements and working-hour regulations.
