Position Overview
The Fleet Controller is responsible for overseeing the operations of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring efficient routing, vehicle maintenance, driver management, and compliance with company policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight
- Plan, manage, and optimise line haul schedules to ensure timely deliveries and maximum resource utilisation.
- Monitor the movement of vehicles, ensuring adherence to planned routes and schedules.
- Collaborate with dispatchers, fleet controllers and branch managers to maintain seamless operations.
- Fleet Management
- Ensure the line haul fleet is well-maintained, compliance with regulations, and operationally efficient.
- Coordinate with the workshop to schedule routine services and resolve vehicle breakdowns promptly.
- Track and report on fleet utilisation and fuel efficiency to drive cost savings.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all line haul operations comply with company policies, industry standards, and local and national transportation regulations.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and manage line haul drivers and support staff to ensure high levels of performance and accountability.
- Foster strong communication and teamwork across the operations department.
- Customer and Stakeholder Communication
- Work closely with customers to ensure service delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
- Address and resolve service issues or delays in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on line haul performance.
Qualifications and Skills
- Grade 12 / Matric Qualification non-negotiable.
- Proven experience in transport industry, with a minimum of 3 years in fleet planning and control.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
