Job summary

Pick n Pay in Sandton is seeking a Bakery Supervisor to oversee hygiene, safety and production within the bakery department. You will supervise stock, ensure standards are met and work to maximise gross margins and profits.

The role requires leadership, attention to detail and a customer‑minded approach. You will plan daily production, check pricing, conduct quality checks and coach staff to maintain high performance.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric is required.
• Minimum 5 years of service.

Responsibilities

• Ensure hygiene, housekeeping and safe working standards are maintained.
• Adhere to security procedures.
• Maintain merchandise/display standards.
• Conduct regular quality checks and rotate stock; remove damaged/expired items.
• Prevent wastage, shrinkage and damages.
• Check pricing labels for accuracy.
• Complete relevant administration and documentation.
• Plan and implement sales promotions.
• Advise customers on products and services; respond to requests courteously.
• Monitor budgets (expenses, turnover, gross) and take action as needed.
• Manage stock levels to avoid overstocking and ensure availability.
• Plan daily/weekly production where applicable.
• Communicate effectively with staff, management, customers and suppliers.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and operated to standards.
• Lead and develop employees to maintain standards.

Minimum Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that hygiene, housekeeping and safe working standards are maintained (floor and back-up).
• Ensure that security procedures are adhered to.
• Ensure that merchandise/display standards are adhered to.
• Conduct regular quality checks, ensure that stock is rotated. Damaged/expired stock is removed.
• Prevent wastage/shrinkage/damages.
• Check correct pricing e.g. labels.
• Complete all relevant administration/documentation.
• Plan and implement sales promotions.
• Approach and advise customers on the product, listen to customers’ requests, provide the required product or services and handle customers in a courteous and businesslike manner.
• Monitor budgets (expenses, turnover, gross) and take required action.
• Optimise stock levels e.g. always in stock, never overstocked through effective ordering and efficient handling of returns.
• Plan daily/weekly production of products (if applicable).
• Communicate effectively with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
• Ensure that all equipment is maintained in effective working order and operated in accordance with laid down standards.
• Manage employees to ensure standards are maintained by competent, motivated employees
