Job summary

Ergasia Placements, on behalf of a Pretoria East law firm, seeks an experienced Litigation Attorney to join the Banking Litigation & Recoveries team. The role focuses on Vehicle and Asset Finance (VAF) litigation, vehicle repossessions and business banking recoveries for major financial institutions.

The successful candidate will have at least five years post-admission High Court experience, strong drafting skills, and the ability to manage a demanding portfolio independently. EE: Open.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum 5 years' post-admission experience (PAE).
• Proven experience in banking litigation and secured asset recoveries.
• Experience in vehicle repossessions and Vehicle and Asset Finance (VAF) litigation is highly desirable.
• Experience in defended and undefended High Court litigation.
• Knowledge of insolvency, business rescue, liquidation and deceased estate matters involving financial institutions.
• Strong understanding of the National Credit Act, Insolvency Act, Companies Act and High Court procedures.
• Experience managing litigation matters independently from inception to finalisation.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of banking litigation and recovery matters.
• Handle vehicle repossessions, asset recoveries and business banking litigation.
• Draft and settle pleadings, affidavits, notices, heads of argument and other court documentation.
• Manage defended and undefended High Court proceedings, including opposed applications and trials.
• Oversee execution processes, warrants of attachment and sales in execution.
• Liaise with sheriffs, counsel, banking clients and other stakeholders.
• Attend court proceedings, case management conferences and settlement negotiations.
• Manage strict court deadlines and ensure compliance with client service-level requirements.
• Provide regular updates and reports on litigation progress and recovery outcomes.

The successful candidate will primarily handle Vehicle and Asset Finance (VAF) litigation, vehicle repossessions and business banking recoveries on behalf of major financial institutions.
