Job summary

MyCareerCraft is seeking a skilled Lift Mechanic to service, repair and inspect passenger and goods lifts across multiple sites in South Africa. You will diagnose faults, perform preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with safety standards.

The role involves after-hours call-outs and working at heights. Applicants must hold a Red Seal in Lift Mechanic or Electrical, have a Matric with Maths/Science, and possess a valid driver's licence and transport.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) with Maths and Science, plus an N2/N3 in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• A completed Trade Test (Red Seal) — Lift Mechanic or Electrical — is essential.
• Solid hands-on experience servicing and repairing lifts/escalators.
• Working knowledge of the OHS Act and lifting machinery codes for safety compliance.
• Valid driver's licence and own transport; role spans multiple sites.
• Willingness to be on a call-out roster, including after-hours and weekends.
• Calm under pressure; safety and customer care matter when someone is trapped.
• Experience with a major OEM in installation, modernisation or service.
• Working at heights / confined space certification.
• Basic computer literacy for job cards and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Servicing, maintaining and repairing passenger and goods lifts and escalators as applicable.
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults in motors, panels and safety gear.
• Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance to prevent breakdowns.
• Responding to emergency call-outs and entrapments, including after hours.
• Keeping accurate service records and site reports for each visit.
• Working safely at height and in confined shaft spaces per OHS Act.

• Solid hands‑on experience servicing and repairing lifts/escalators (please indicate how many years)
• Working knowledge of the OHS Act and the National Code of Practice for lifting machinery, since safety compliance isn't optional in this field
• A valid driver's licence and own transport, as this role covers multiple sites
• Willingness to be on a call‑out roster, including after‑hours and weekends
• A calm head under pressure — you may be dealing with someone stuck in a lift, so composure matters as much as skill
• Previous experience with a major OEM (installation, modernisation or service side)
• Working at heights / confined space certification
• Basic computer literacy for job cards and reporting

Duties:

• Servicing, maintaining and repairing passenger and goods lifts (and escalators, where applicable) in line with manufacturer specs and safety standards
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults — motors, control panels, door mechanisms, safety gear, counterweights, wiring
• Conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance to catch problems before they become breakdowns
• Responding to emergency call‑outs and entrapments, often after hours
• Keeping accurate service and job records for every site visit
• Working safely at height and in confined shaft spaces, following all OHS Act requirements
