Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel for an on-site role in Kimberley, Northern Cape. You will provide comprehensive legal advice across mining law, environmental regulations, contracts, governance and dispute resolution to support operations and strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate is an admitted attorney with 7+ years in mining/resource law, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and the ability to advise senior management and project teams while ensuring regulatory

About the Role

Our client, a significant player in the mining and resources sector, is seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to join their team in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA. This is an on-site role, integral to supporting the company's extensive operations and strategic initiatives within this demanding industry. You will provide comprehensive legal advice covering a broad range of areas, including mining law, environmental regulations, contractual matters, corporate governance, and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the legal complexities specific to the mining and resources industry in South Africa, coupled with strong commercial acumen. You will work closely with operational teams, project developers, and senior management to mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented legal professional with a proven ability to manage challenging legal issues in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of mining law, mineral rights, and environmental compliance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to exploration, mining operations, and supply chains.
• Advise on corporate governance and compliance with statutory requirements.
• Manage and resolve legal disputes, including litigation and arbitration proceedings.
• Conduct legal due diligence for acquisitions, disposals, and project financing.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within mining operations.
• Liaise with government authorities, regulatory bodies, and external legal counsel.
• Support project development and expansion initiatives from a legal perspective.
• Develop and implement internal legal policies and procedures.
• Stay informed about legislative changes impacting the mining and resources sector.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, preferably with a focus on mining, resources, or natural resources law.
• Solid understanding of South African mining legislation, environmental law, and related regulations.
• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
• Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advise stakeholders at all levels.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA.
• High degree of integrity and professional conduct.
