Qualifications

• Excellent advocacy, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload remotely and deliver high-quality work.

About the Role

Our client, a reputable law firm specializing in commercial disputes, is seeking a skilled Legal Consultant with expertise in Commercial Litigation to join their team on a contract basis. This role is primarily remote, allowing you to manage your workload effectively from a location convenient to you. You will be tasked with advising clients, preparing legal documentation, and representing them in various legal proceedings. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of civil procedure, evidence law, and contract law within the South African context. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal professional to engage in challenging litigation matters and contribute to successful client outcomes, remotely supporting operations related to Rustenburg, North West .

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on complex commercial litigation matters.
• Draft pleadings, applications, affidavits, and other court documents.
• Conduct thorough legal research and prepare case analyses.
• Manage discovery processes, including document review and interrogatories.
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings (where permitted remotely or with travel).
• Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders to advance case strategy.
• Analyze legal precedents and develop persuasive arguments.
• Assess case viability and provide recommendations on settlement or trial.
• Maintain detailed case files and ensure adherence to all procedural rules and deadlines.
• Contribute to business development efforts by identifying potential new matters and clients.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 8 years of experience, with a significant focus on commercial litigation.
• Demonstrated success in handling a variety of commercial disputes, including contractual claims, shareholder disputes, and insolvency matters.
• In-depth knowledge of the Rules of the High Court and Magistrates' Court.
• Strong advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
