Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer based in Benoni, Gauteng, to lead the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical substations critical to the power distribution network.

You will lead engineering teams, ensure on-time delivery within budget and safety standards, and mentor junior engineers. A strong background in HV equipment, protection systems, and control schemes is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering;

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, engineering, and commissioning of electrical substations, including high-voltage equipment like transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
• Manage substation projects from concept to completion within scope, schedule, and budget.
• Develop detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and calculations for substation components and systems.
• Oversee site investigations, planning, and execution of construction and refurbishment activities.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, IEC/IEEE standards, and safety regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design teams.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, clients, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for substation projects.
• Perform quality control and assurance checks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Stay updated with new technologies and best practices in substation engineering.
