Placements24 is seeking a Lead Drilling Engineer for offshore operations based in George, Western Cape. The role requires leading drilling campaigns, ensuring safety, environmental, and operational standards, and optimizing performance while managing costs.

You will supervise seasoned engineers, mentor juniors, and collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and operations teams to deliver reliable, safe wells on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of drilling engineering experience with offshore exposure.
• Proven track record in managing complex drilling projects and leading teams.
• In-depth knowledge of drilling equipment, downhole tools, and fluids.
• Familiarity with directional drilling and managed pressure drilling.
• Strong understanding of well control principles and blowout prevention.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced offshore environment.
• Proficiency in drilling simulation software and project management tools.
• Valid offshore survival certification and medical clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute drilling programs and procedures for offshore wells.
• Oversee all drilling operations, including well design, casing, cementing, and completion strategies.
• Manage drilling rig operations, ensuring efficient performance and adherence to safety protocols.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for potential drilling hazards.
• Supervise and mentor junior drilling engineers and drilling supervisors.
• Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and operations teams to optimize drilling plans.
• Manage drilling budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations and company policies.
• Analyze drilling data to identify areas for performance improvement and technological innovation.
• Respond effectively to operational challenges and emergencies.
