Placements24 in Cape Town seeks a Lead Molecular Biologist to spearhead gene editing R&D. You will lead a research team, shape strategy for CRISPR-Cas9 therapies, and drive projects from conception to preclinical validation in a fast‑paced biotech environment.

The role requires a PhD and 7+ years post‑doc experience with leadership, extensive hands-on molecular biology skills, and a track record in publications.

Qualifications

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field.
• 7+ years post‑doctoral research, with ≥3 years in leadership.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with gene editing (CRISPR/Cas9, etc.).
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques: PCR, qPCR, Western blot, cloning, cell culture, flow cytometry.
• Experience with NGS data analysis is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of molecular biologists and research associates focused on gene editing applications.
• Develop and optimize protocols for gene editing using CRISPR, TALENs, and other emerging technologies.
• Design and execute experiments to assess efficacy, specificity, and safety of gene editing strategies.
• Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, including next-generation sequencing results.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including geneticists, pharmacologists, and regulatory affairs specialists.
• Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively.
• Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, patent applications, and regulatory submissions.
• Represent the company at scientific conferences and foster external collaborations.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and ethical guidelines in research.
