About the Role

Our client, a major force in the Oil & Gas sector with diversified interests, is seeking a highly experienced Lead Mining Engineer to oversee operational planning and execution at their facility in Klerksdorp, North West, ZA . This pivotal role demands exceptional leadership and technical expertise in mine planning, operational efficiency, and safety management. You will be responsible for developing long-term and short-term mine plans, optimizing production, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of various mining methods, advanced planning software, and the ability to lead and motivate a team of mining professionals. This is an on-site position critical to the ongoing success and expansion of our operations in Klerksdorp . You will play a key role in shaping the future of our mining activities and ensuring sustainable resource extraction.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic mine plans, including short-term and long-term schedules.
• Optimize mining methods and sequences for maximum efficiency and safety.
• Oversee mine development, production, and ground support activities.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects.
• Manage mine surveying and geological data integration for planning.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Supervise and mentor a team of mining engineers, supervisors, and geologists.
• Identify and implement technological advancements to improve mining operations.
• Monitor mine performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Collaborate closely with processing, maintenance, and project teams.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mine operations and planning, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
• Proven expertise in open-pit or underground mining methods.
• Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Ventsim, Surpac).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, ventilation, and mine design principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and budgets.
• Experience working in the Klerksdorp area or willingness to relocate.
• Must be able to work full-time on-site.
