Job summary

AECOM Lead Engineer - Mechanical (Underground Hard Rock Mining) based in Centurion oversees mechanical design for underground mining and materials handling. The role drives studies, detailed design, procurement support, and commissioning, with a focus on safety, reliability, and efficiency.

You will manage complex dust, ventilation, and fixed-plant packages and coordinate with global teams within a flexible hybrid work model that balances office and site activity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 9+ years of mechanical engineering experience in mining/bulk materials handling.
• Registered Professional Engineer with a recognised body.
• Experience with conveyor systems and bulk-materials handling.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design packages for underground mining and materials handling.
• Perform conveyor design and analysis using Sidewinder and Belt Analyst.
• Develop calculations, equipment specifications, datasheets, scopes of work, and design reports.
• Lead the design and integration of crushing, screening, conveying, pumping, dewatering, dust management, and ventilation systems.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with civil, structural, electrical, process, and geotechnical teams.
• Support procurement, tender evaluations, construction activities, commissioning and operational readiness.
