Job summary

Square 1 Recruitment is assisting a major Alberton-based packaging manufacturer to source a Maintenance Supervisor (Millwright) for a fast-paced facility. The role blends hands-on maintenance (about 60%) with supervision, planning and team leadership (around 40%), overseeing a team of ~20 engineers and technicians.

The plant features extrusion, forming and packaging lines, requiring strong electrical/mechanical fault-finding and PLC-driven automation in a high-speed environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified Millwright (Red Seal) with FMCG manufacturing experience.
• 5-10 years in maintenance within FMCG environments.
• 3-5 years supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability.
• Experience with PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation.
• Knowledge of VSDs, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Experience with high-speed production equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach and develop the maintenance team.
• Allocate work, monitor progress and ensure quality of completed maintenance.
• Lead hands-on mechanical and electrical fault finding.
• Coordinate planned preventive maintenance programmes.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
• Diagnose faults across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and automation systems.
• Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
• Maintain maintenance records and reporting.
• Conduct first-line performance management and discipline where required.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company standards.
