Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Specialist Industrial Automation Technician for a Durban facility. The role focuses on maintaining and optimizing automated systems across production lines, with emphasis on PLCs, SCADA, robotics, and sensor technologies.

The ideal candidate will read electrical schematics, work with Siemens/Allen‑Bradley/Mitsubishi PLCs, and collaborate with engineering teams to implement innovative automation solutions. Strong problem-solving and safety compliance are essential.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation, with a focus on manufacturing environments.
Strong proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLC platforms such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and Mitsubishi.
Experience with SCADA configuration and HMI development.
Knowledge of robotic systems (Fanuc, KUKA) and their integration.
Understanding of industrial networking protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and control diagrams.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, program, and maintain industrial automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and robotics.
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on automated machinery and control systems.
Troubleshoot and diagnose complex automation hardware and software issues.
Develop and implement solutions to improve system reliability, efficiency, and safety.
Collaborate with engineering teams to design, upgrade, and implement new automation solutions.
Manage spare parts inventory and recommend equipment upgrades.
Document maintenance, repair, and modification activities accurately.
