Placements24 is seeking a Lead Grid Integration Engineer for a hybrid role in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. You will lead the integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid, guiding grid studies and coordinating with operators and developers.

The ideal candidate has a master's in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems and at least 7 years' experience in grid interconnection, grid codes, and ESS integration. You will mentor a professional team and drive technical excellence.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• 7+ years of experience in power systems engineering, focusing on grid interconnection of renewable projects.
• Strong knowledge of grid codes, interconnection standards, and regulatory frameworks in South Africa.
• Proficiency with power system simulation tools such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical assessment and design of grid interconnection for new energy projects, including renewables and storage.
• Develop and validate grid interconnection studies, including power flow, short circuit, and transient stability analyses.
• Collaborate with grid operators, utilities, and developers to ensure compliance with grid codes and standards.
• Oversee integration of grid-forming inverters, energy storage systems, and other grid support technologies.
• Provide expert guidance on grid stability, voltage control, frequency regulation, and protection schemes.

Our client, a significant entity in the Energy sector, is seeking an accomplished Lead Grid Integration Engineer to join their team in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape . This role is central to ensuring the seamless and stable integration of renewable energy sources into the national power grid. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in power systems engineering, grid stability, and the technical challenges associated with connecting distributed and utility‑scale energy projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the modernization of South Africa's energy infrastructure, working on complex technical challenges and leading a team of skilled engineers. Key Responsibilities

Lead the technical assessment and design of grid interconnection for new energy projects, including renewables and storage. Oversee the specification and integration of grid-forming inverters, energy storage systems, and other grid support technologies. Manage a team of grid integration engineers, providing mentorship and technical leadership. Review and approve technical documentation, reports, and interconnection agreements. Stay updated on evolving grid codes, regulatory requirements, and emerging grid integration technologies.

Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems. A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in power systems engineering, with a strong focus on grid interconnection of renewable energy projects. In-depth knowledge of grid codes, interconnection standards, and regulatory frameworks in South Africa. Proficiency in power system simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or similar tools. Experience with energy storage systems (ESS) and their integration into the grid. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data. Excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of managing technical teams and liaising with external stakeholders. Experience working in the Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape region or understanding its grid infrastructure is a significant advantage.
