About the Role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned Lead Geoscientist to join our client's pioneering team, operating remotely with a focus on the Oil & Gas industry . Based from anywhere within South Africa, you will spearhead geological interpretations and exploration efforts, contributing significantly to the identification and appraisal of potential hydrocarbon resources. This remote-first role demands a high degree of autonomy, technical leadership, and innovative thinking. You will be responsible for guiding junior geoscientists, mentoring team members, and ensuring the highest standards of geological analysis are maintained across all projects. The position requires deep technical knowledge and a strategic vision for geological exploration in a global context, ensuring our client remains at the forefront of discovery. Key Responsibilities

Lead the geological interpretation of seismic data, well logs, and core samples to identify and evaluate potential oil and gas prospects. Develop and refine regional and prospect-scale geological models. Oversee the integration of diverse geological and geophysical datasets. Provide expert geological input into exploration well planning and drilling operations. Mentor and guide junior geoscientists and technical staff. Ensure data quality control and management processes are robust. Collaborate effectively with reservoir engineers, geophysicists, and management in a virtual environment. Present geological findings and recommendations to internal teams and external partners. Contribute to the development and implementation of exploration strategies.

Requirements

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science discipline. A minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in exploration geoscience, with a strong focus on the Oil & Gas sector . Demonstrated expertise in seismic interpretation, structural geology, and sequence stratigraphy. Proficiency with industry-standard interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix, Kingdom). Proven track record of successful prospect identification and evaluation. Experience leading technical teams and managing geological projects. Excellent remote collaboration and communication skills are essential. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Strong understanding of risk assessment and uncertainty analysis. Published work or presentations at industry conferences are highly desirable.
