Placements24 is seeking a Lead Geologist to spearhead exploration and evaluation of hydrocarbon prospects from a fully remote position within South Africa. You will lead geological teams, define exploration strategies, and guide de-risking through integrated seismic, well, and core analysis.

Requirements include a Master’s or Ph.D. in Geology or Geophysics and 10+ years in oil and gas geology, with leadership experience.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the global energy market, is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Geologist to spearhead geological exploration and evaluation efforts. This is a fully remote role, enabling you to contribute your expertise from any location within South Africa. You will be responsible for leading geological teams, defining exploration strategies, and ensuring the successful identification and characterization of hydrocarbon resources. Your insights will be critical in guiding exploration campaigns and de-risking potential prospects. This position demands strong leadership, advanced geological interpretation skills, and the ability to foster collaboration among geoscientists and other disciplines in a remote work environment. Key Responsibilities

• In-depth knowledge of sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural geology.
• Proven track record in prospect generation and evaluation in various geological settings.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, suitable for leading a remote team.
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
• Familiarity with well logging interpretation and core analysis techniques.
