Placements24 in South Africa seeks a Lead Geologist - Subsurface Exploration to drive exploration programs in the Tembisa region. You will lead geological evaluations, interpret seismic data, and guide basin modeling to de-risk targets.

The role collaborates with geophysicists and reservoir engineers, mentors junior staff, and contributes to exploration strategies. A Master’s or PhD and 10+ years of oil and gas experience are required, with strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or related Earth Science discipline
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in oil and gas exploration geology
• Extensive experience in seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy, and structural geology
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix)
• Demonstrated success in identifying and evaluating exploration prospects
• Strong understanding of petroleum systems and basin analysis
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Effective communication, presentation, and leadership skills

Responsibilities

• Lead geological assessments for exploration acreage and new venture opportunities
• Interpret seismic, well log, and core data to define subsurface structures and stratigraphy
• Develop and refine geological models for prospect identification and evaluation
• Conduct basin analysis and petroleum systems modeling
• Assess and quantify geological risk and uncertainty for exploration prospects
• Collaborate with geophysics and reservoir engineering teams to integrate subsurface data
• Prepare technical presentations and reports for internal stakeholders and management
• Mentor and supervise junior geological staff
• Stay abreast of the latest geological technologies and methodologies
• Contribute to the development of exploration strategies and play concepts
