About the Role

Our client, a prominent force in the mining infrastructure sector, is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Project Engineer to spearhead critical projects in Rustenburg. This role is essential for overseeing the complete lifecycle of electrical installations and upgrades within major mining operations. You will be responsible for technical leadership, project execution, and ensuring that all electrical systems meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability. This position requires a hands-on approach and a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles applied to heavy industrial environments. Your expertise will be vital in driving project success and ensuring operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all electrical engineering aspects of assigned projects from conception through to completion. Develop detailed project plans, including scope, budget, timelines, and resource allocation for electrical works. Oversee the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of electrical infrastructure, including substations, power distribution, and motor control centers. Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with stringent mining safety regulations and industry best practices. Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Conduct site inspections and audits to verify quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications. Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project progression and stakeholder satisfaction. Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, and evaluate contractor proposals. Troubleshoot complex electrical problems encountered on-site and implement effective solutions. Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in a project management or lead role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector. Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale electrical projects, including high-voltage systems. Proficiency in electrical design software and project management tools. Strong knowledge of mining electrical standards, safety protocols (e.g., MHS Act), and risk assessment methodologies. Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications. Professional registration with ECSA is a significant advantage. Must be willing to work on-site in Rustenburg and potentially travel to various mine locations.
