Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to head electrical design for large-scale industrial and mining projects in Rustenburg, North West, South Africa. The role emphasizes HV/MV systems, power distribution, control systems, safety, and mentoring a team of engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
10+ years of experience in electrical design engineering, with mining/industrial exposure.
Proven experience leading design teams and managing complex projects.
Proficiency in electrical CAD software and simulation tools.
Strong knowledge of high/medium-voltage systems, power distribution, and protection.
Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and DCS systems.
Knowledge of South African and international standards (SANS, IEC).
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Practical ability to work in fast-paced, project-driven environments in Rustenburg.

Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design process for major industrial projects from concept to detailed design.
Develop and review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring schedules, and panel layouts.
Ensure designs comply with national and international standards and codes.
Mentor a team of electrical design engineers and technicians.
Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated designs.
Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers, motors, and cabling.
Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering studies.
Prepare BoQ and technical specifications for procurement.
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and technical specifications for procurement.
Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
Stay updated on emerging electrical design technologies and best practices.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with significant experience in industrial or mining sectors.
Proven experience in leading design teams and managing complex projects.
Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP) and simulation tools.
Strong knowledge of high-voltage and medium-voltage systems, power distribution, and protection.
Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and DCS systems.
Excellent understanding of relevant South African and international standards (SANS, IEC).
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with ECSA is highly desirable.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment in Rustenburg.
